Stand with Tacoma: Demand Justice & Accountability

We, a coalition of community organizations and concerned individuals, are demanding a pattern-or-practice investigation into the Tacoma Police Department (TPD) by the Department of Justice (DOJ). We believe TPD's policies and practices have caused widespread excessive force and discriminatory policing, disproportionately harming Black residents and other marginalized communities.

We recognize that Tacoma's mayor and police chief have inherited this system, which has failed to properly serve the Black community in Tacoma for many years. Our Coalition is now moving forward to seek federal intervention and oversight to enact the necessary reforms

Why We Need Your Support
  • Local Efforts Have Failed: We've tirelessly advocated for change with local authorities, but our recommendations have not been adequately implemented. The lack of accountability within TPD is deeply concerning.

  • The Manuel Ellis Case: The recent trial of three officers in the death of Manuel Ellis tragically illustrates the persistent challenges in holding law enforcement accountable.

  • We Need Federal Intervention: A comprehensive, external investigation by the DOJ is crucial to uncovering the root causes of police misconduct and implementing lasting reforms.
